 About Northwest Flyers
The Northwest Flyers, Inc. is a 501(c)7
not-for-profit flying club based in
Marianna, Florida, with its aircraft based
in Marianna, Florida. We have fifteen
members; new members are required to
purchase the membership of an existing
member by submitting an
membership application listing
their qualifications, background and
experience to the other fourteen members
(who must unanimously approve their
application) as well as "buying out" the
member whose share they will be obtaining.
Our members are pilots (or perhaps student
pilots), who use an
online tool to check
each aircraft availability and to book
our aircraft in advance. Our
members come from all walks of life; some
are retired military.
We have
no employees. We perform our own
FAA-allowed routine maintenance (overseen by
our own Maintenance Officer, who is also a
pilot member) and use outside maintenance
for items such as annual inspections,
upgrades or other maintenance.
We have
our own member flight instructors, who (as according to our handbook) both provide new
member orientation (how we do things) as
well as provide instruction and checkout in our aircraft.
(They
are also available to provide FAA-required
flight reviews.) Upon full checkout in
aircraft, the new member will be provided
with a Marianna Airport gate card as well as
aircraft and locker keys.
Dues
are paid monthly via invoice; each month's
invoice will also include any hours flown
the previous month. (These hours are
recorded at the end of each flight in a
logbook maintained in each aircraft.)
Members are expected to be prompt in paying
their invoices!
We hold
occasional work days or work evenings,
where we all pitch in and give our birds a
good cleaning, waxing, wiping and
vaccuuming. These are
optional, and may involve a trip to a local
restaurant afterwards for some coffee, or
perhaps lunch and definitely some hanger
talk!
Some of our members are also EAA Young
Eagles pilots, and pay for club aircraft to
provide free airplane rides to kids ages
8-17.
